Peirama Workshops

peiramaPeirama is an activity group aiming  “To inspire and equip people to explore and realize their potentials”

Their main areas of interest are :

• Organizing extraordinary workshops which address everyone.

• Staging performances, events, concerts, presentations, parties… on its own devices or in collaboration with other groups.

• Contributing by offering the venue, material infrastructure etc. for events organized by other groups.

Tomorrow they have an introduction meeting to all their new winter seminars, ranging from film and photography lessons to knitting and “how to make your own soaps and cosmetics”

I have attended seminars there in the past and they are a great way to learn something new and creative during the winter time !

Have a look at their webpage and facebook page and go to the free introduction day tomorrow Wendsday 2th at 18.30, Filipou 51, downtown Thessaloniki !

See you there !

P.S. Although most of the seminars are practical and not theoretical, some working knowledge of greek language is required. If you speak a little bit of greek your interaction with the locals will help you improve your language skills. If on the other hand you don’ t speak any, you should ask the program administrator if they can explain a few things in english for you, before joining !

Thess Bike

Thess BikeYeah, yeah yeah ! Today I am very happy to present Thess Bike !

In greek thes = θες = do you want, so if the question is – do you want bike ? The answer is surely yes !

I have always been very jealous of other cities’ bike sharing programs and was hoping that one day they will make their appearance in Thessaloniki too, so the day has finally come !

The program is launching as we speak so it is completely new and I don’t have many details to share with you yet.  From a quick look on the website ( which is currently only in greek unfortunately but hopefully english will appear soon ) local citizens using a prepaid card will be able to use them for free the first 30 minutes and then pay for each additional 30 minute interval.  Visitors will pay on a per hour basis.  Keep in mind that Thessaloniki is a relatively small city so going from one side of the city to the other will not take you more than one hour.

Mon Frere

Mon FrereMon Frere is on of my favourite coffee break spots in town.  Centrally located in the corner of Karolou Ntil and Proxenou Koromila streets, this place is surrounded by coffee bars and small boutiques. The seafront and the busy streets are just one block away.

I love this place because of its french style atmosphere, and the quiet (from cars) location.  It is always busy with people of all ages, and if you find a table to sit in the afternoon you can consider yourself very lucky ! I prefer to go there for an early morning coffee or on less busy days.

Mon Frere offers quality drinks, good prices and a nice atmosphere, the best way to start your day in the centre of the city !

Ladadika

LadadikaThis is an old style neighbourhood in the centre of Thessaloniki.  Located between the port and the Valaoritou nightlife area, this colourful place is filled with nice restaurants and bars.

The name Ladadika comes from the old market of trading oil that this place was originally known for.   As you walk through the narrow streets and alleys, you will feel like you take a walk in the past!

This is a neighbourhood which is alive 24 hours per day. In the morning you will see the business people walking around, as it is an area next to the port with many banks and business offices around.  My office is also located here so if you are in the neighbourhood send me a message to meet !

LadadikaFrom lunchtime onwards people start filling the places to eat, drink and dance till the next morning.  You will find many famous places to eat here like Zythos, Paparouna, Panelinion, Bakaliarakia tou Aristou, Full tou Meze, Tapas Bar and many more.  Detailed posts on these and more will follow in time…

Have in mind that after 14.00 the restaurants start getting busy, so if you are there on a weekend avoid going around 15.00 as it is the busiest time.  Local musicians appear out of nowhere – don’t be surprised when you see them next to you!

This area is an excellent choice for lunch, dinner, coffee or drink, and is one of the first places to go for a real taste of Thessaloniki.

Summer Movie Theatre

Natali Summer Movie Theatre

The best way to say goodbye to summer is in a summer movie theatre. There are quite a few in the city, open from the first days of summer till the first rains come along. Whether you are stuck in the city during the whole summer, or just came back from vacations and want to keep this feeling in the city, this is the ideal Saturday night out.

Most of them are like small city oasis, surrounded by tall buildings and green plants. You can enjoy a snack and drink while watching you movie and there is always an intermission half way through the film for extra re-fills !

Before you go check on ipolistonkosmo.gr for movie times and schedules and off you go !

Summer movie theatres is one more reason that summer should never end !
