It is September and one of the city’s favorite new autumn traditions is officially back! Following the success of its debut last year, the EU Rice Festival is back for the second year, and the energy is absolutely incredible.
This year, the festival is taking things to the next level. The location changes to Alexander the Great statue and the program is upgraded with live cooking masterclasses, where renowned chefs are showcasing the versatility of Greek-grown European rice. From traditional, comforting family recipes to high-end, creative fusion dishes, the aromas that will fill Thessaloniki’s waterfront a will be irresistible. It will be a true paradise for foodies and families alike.
Once again, the organizers stay true to their eco-conscious soul, keeping the entire event beautifully sustainable. All the delicious creations will be served in those gorgeous, plastic-free palm leaf bowls that we loved so much last year. It’s a wonderful reminder that we can celebrate our culinary heritage and enjoy incredible street food while deeply respecting the environment.
Local Tip: If you missed it last year, make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice! It is the ultimate weekend event to combine a relaxed stroll by the sea with some of the best flavors the region has to offer. Come early to secure a good spot near the cooking stages and enjoy a slow, delicious evening by the waterfront!
