Kits k s’efaga: A legend in Olympou street

I was really troubled if I should share this gem with you or not, because it so tiny, and if it gets more popular I will never find a table again, but I have a big heart, so here it is.

March in Thessaloniki is a transitional month. The winter chill is slowly fading, making room for the first hints of spring, but the evenings still call for warm, inviting spaces where you can gather around a table for hours. This March, I met up with a group of close girlfriends I hadn’t seen in a very long time, and our search for the perfect, relaxed reunion spot on a random weekday, led us on straight to Kits k S’efaga on Olympou Street.

Nestled in one of the city’s most vibrant and alternative neighborhoods, just steps away from the ancient Roman market, this spot instantly wraps you in its cozy, laid-back charm. It completely strips away any pretentiousness, focusing instead on great energy, a nostalgic, slightly retro kitsch aesthetic, and comforting, honest flavors.

The menu is a wonderful twist on traditional local tastes, crafted with real care and top-quality ingredients. But what it truly special for a reunion is the atmosphere itself. It is a place designed for long conversations. There is no rush, no loud overpowering music, just the gentle hum of happy people sharing food. We felt like we were in a home kitchen, especially when the chef joined us to discuss about the food!

Local Tip: Since it’s a favorite local hangout and super small, the tables fill up fast, especially on weekend evenings. Come a bit early to grab a table and feel like a local connecting over food!
