August is still here and let’s be honest—August afternoons in the city center call for one specific thing: a ice-cold drink, a fresh breeze, and a place to completely unwind after a long day at the office. Today, my favorite after-work chill-out spot is taking center stage, and it is easily one of the most vibrant, youth-infused hubs in Thessaloniki: Nectar Distillery.
Located right in the heart of the city facing Dikastirion Square, this place is a total game-changer. If you are a traveler in your 20s visiting Thessaloniki, chances are you’ve already booked a room here at Zeus is Loose Hostel. It is an award-winning, super trendy hostel designed with a brilliant, modern twist on ancient Greek mythology (hence the awesome name!). The energy downstairs is always buzzing with international backpackers, digital nomads, and creative souls sharing stories.
But here is the ultimate local secret: you don’t need to be a guest at the hostel to experience its best feature. You just take the elevator straight up to the 5th floor to their amazing rooftop bar, Nectar Distillery.
Sitting up here right now, holding a perfectly mixed cocktail as the late August sun starts to dip, is pure magic. The view is absolutely unmatched—you get a stunning, panoramic look over the historic square, the ancient Roman Agora, and the beautiful chaos of Thessaloniki’s rooftops stretching all the way to the hills. The vibe is incredibly light, fun, and unpretentious, making it the absolute perfect spot to shake off the workday stress and just chat for hours.
Whether you are looking for a cool place to drop your bags or simply want to catch one of the best urban sunsets in the city with a great crowd, Nectar Distillery at Zeus is Loose is an absolute must-visit.
Local Tip: The rooftop fills up pretty quickly with locals and travelers alike right after office hours (around 6:00 to 8:00 PM). Get there a bit early to grab one of the high stools right by the edge of the terrace—that’s where you’ll get the absolute best photos of the city view!
Where to find it: Klisouras 13, Thessaloniki
