The Ultimate Music Day Trip: Celebrating 30 Years of Magic at Sani Festival!

If you are visiting Thessaloniki during the summer and want to experience something genuinely spectacular, I have the absolute best day-trip plan for you. Pack a light jacket, hop in the car, and let’s head to the magical peninsula of Halkidiki because this year, the legendary Sani Festival is celebrating its landmark 30th anniversary!

For three decades, this open-air festival has been turning the iconic Sani Hill into one of the most stunning musical stages in Europe. Imagine a medieval tower, a lush green hill under the stars, and the endless blue of the Aegean Sea as a backdrop. It is pure magic, and this summer’s 2022 line-up is completely mind-blowing—bringing global legends from jazz, pop, and classical music (including the one and only Andrea Bocelli!) right to our summer doorstep.

The whole day trip is an experience in itself. We prefer to start our afternoon early, driving down from Thessaloniki to enjoy a slow walk around the vibrant Sani Marina, checking out the yachts, and sipping refreshing cocktails under the golden sun.

But the real core of the night happens when you climb up Sani Hill. Sitting on the grass as the sun begins to set over the sea, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, while the first musical notes fill the air… it gives you absolute goosebumps! The energy is sophisticated yet wonderfully relaxed and fun. You are surrounded by people sharing a collective love for great music in an unbeatable setting.

It is the perfect definition of the Greek summer dream, just an hour away from the city. Trust me, if you want to fall completely in love with the lifestyle around Thessaloniki, a music night on Sani Hill is an absolute must!

Local Tip: Because the concert takes place on top of an open hill right by the sea, the night breeze can get surprisingly chilly after the sun goes down, even in July or August. Definitely bring a light sweater or denim jacket along so you can stay cozy while dancing the night away!

Where to find it: Sani Hill, Sani Resort, Halkidiki (approx. 1 hour drive from Thessaloniki center)
