Urban Picnic is here for its second year! Starting tomorrow and lasting for the final three days of August, this fresh city event is a wonderfully creative way to say goodbye to summer.
First organized last year, it gave us all a chance to experience Thessaloniki through a completely new lens. While we Greeks are used to hanging out in traditional spots like bars and cafes, times of crisis inspire us to reinvent our entertainment. And often, the easiest way to find something new is to look back at the past!
Urban Picnic offers exactly that, hosting its music performances, movie screenings, and moonlit picnics right inside the ancient Roman Agora—a magnificent site in the heart of the city that is normally open only during standard museum hours. Sitting among ancient ruins under the night sky with your own picnic basket is truly a heavenly experience. Don’t miss it!

2026 Update: What started back in 2012 as a fresh idea has now become a beloved end-of-summer tradition for Thessaloniki! The Picnic Urban Festival keeps bringing music, cinema, and outdoor vibes to the Roman Agora every late August.
